44 Ways to Earn Money Online Fast

While making a full-time income online may still sound foreign to you, it shouldn’t. Successful entrepreneurs and freelancers have been earning money online for years.

You can use the skills of your current employment or enlist your favorite hobby to start an online business. Online side hustles can provide extra cash for travel, unexpected expenses, or a healthy savings account. The only regret you will have is that you didn’t start yesterday.

Not sure where to start? I’ve narrowed down my top 44 ways to earn money online. Which one will you pursue?

1. Language Tutor

If English is your native language or you are bi-lingual, language tutoring is a flexible way to make a decent income. Companies like VIPKid (up to $18 hourly) and SayABC (up to $21 hourly) help students learn languages by video chat.

2. Virtual Assistant

For many executives and small business owners, having a reliable virtual assistant can take much-needed stress off their shoulders. Virtual Assistants can expect to make appointments, travel arrangements, data entry, and provide customer service via phone, chat, or email.

3. Social Media Manager

Is your dream job spending the entire workday on Facebook, Instagram, or Pinterest? As social media platforms increase, companies can’t keep up with hiring full-time employees and turn to hourly contractors for support.

To land your first job, build a following on your platform of choice, take an inexpensive course on social media ad placement, and market your services. You will also need to keep up on current pop culture trends and social media best practices to hone your craft.

4. Transcriptionist

If you are a fast typer and have a good ear, an online transcription job might be the right choice for you. You will need an up to date operating system, transcription software, noise-canceling headphones, and if you are going all-in, a digital foot pedal is suggested.

There are three main types of transcription, general, medical, and legal. General transcription (videos, podcasts, etc.) is open to anyone, while medical and legal require specialized training to learn key terms.

My favorite transcription platform is TranscribeMe. Newbies are welcome and you won’t have to invest any money upfront. Pay varies but you can expect $20+ per audio hour.

5. Rideshare Driver

Owning a car (not to mention gas and insurance) is an expense that for the majority of the population is a luxury. However, people still need to get to work and in a lot of geographical areas, public transportation just isn’t feasible.

If you enjoy driving and know all the best shortcuts, you can make a decent wage by driving people to work, appointments, the airport, etc.

Keep in mind when you use online platforms like Uber and Lyft, you are considered an independent contractor and will not receive employer-sponsored benefits.

6. Delivery Service Driver

If you are looking for a low-stress way to be your own boss, give working for a delivery service a try. This is great for people who appreciate the idea of Uber or Lyft but would rather not deal with the daily small talk. You will be picking up customer’s fast food, groceries, Target orders, and more.

Popular companies include Shipt, Instacart, DoorDash, Postmates, Grubhub, and TaskRabbit.

7. Webinar Host

Have you recently solved a problem that could help others? If you have a list of relevant contacts, you can easily send them a live webinar invitation.

A webinar is a fast, inexpensive way to educate your contacts about a new idea, product, or investment opportunity. Combine your webinar with a Kickstarter page for even more impact.

8. Dropshipper

If your friends and family are always asking you where to get the best deal, you should consider starting a dropshipping business. You can list as many or as few products as you would like on popular sites like eBay and Amazon.

In short, you can find a popular product and list it for more than what you’re paying for it. Once a buyer purchases your listing, you use that money to purchase the product and ship it directly to the buyer. You pocket the difference. Plus, there is no inventory to purchase or store.

9. Chat Customer Service

With the increase in texting and overall busyness, people are preferring to solve their shopping, shipping, and payment issues via online chat.

Companies that are frequently hiring are Apple and The Chat Shop. You can also work as a social media moderator for companies like The Social Element, Crisp Thinking, and LiveWorld which help companies solve issues via Facebook, Twitter, etc.

earn money online in property

10. Real Estate Investor

Fundrise is an online platform that provides low-cost access to real estate investing. Options include eREITs (buying and managing buildings or holding mortgages) and eFunds which involves putting money in a virtual pool with other investors to build housing or purchase lots. These purchases are then sold at a profit to willing buyers.

You don’t have to be an accredited investor to join in on the fun. Plus, Fundrise has a 90-day money-back guarantee if you decide real estate investing isn’t right for your portfolio.

11. Translator

If you are fluent in more than one language, put your skills to work by becoming a translator. Similar to transcription, medical and legal translator jobs will pay better than general customer service work.

Going through an agency can help you find unique and higher-paying jobs. Some of my favorites include TextMaster and Gengo.

Most translation work requires translating Chinese, Spanish, German, Russian, and Portuguese into English. Formal education is not always required. Sign language is also an option in this category but requires a bachelor’s degree.

12. Internet Researcher

You can get paid for surfing the Internet. Sure, most companies aren’t looking for a researcher that can find the cutest cat video or the latest TikTok craze, but this is a legit job if Google is your best friend.

Companies like Ask Wonder and Just Answer need online researchers to serve their clients and are frequently hiring. If you have experience providing research in the technical or legal fields, your pay will increase considerably.

13. Book Reviewer

Love to read? If you frequently leave book reviews on Amazon, you will want to contact Kirkus. The book review website pays around $50 per review (350 words) and gives you two weeks after the book is assigned to complete. The job is open worldwide, however, English and Spanish titles are most in demand.

Previous book review writing samples and a resume are requested. You will also want to let them know which genres are your favorite. Click here to apply.

podcasting

14. Podcast Creator

Podcasts are the ultimate self-help book on all subjects from sports, to religion, to how to be more successful. Podcasts often incorporate a job field, pop culture, or influential guests.

To start a podcast only a few tools are needed. You will want to spend the majority of your budget on a good microphone. You will also need headphones, a pop filter, recording/editing software (use GarageBand for free if you are a Mac user), and a hosting account like Soundcloud (so your website bandwidth isn’t compromised).

15. Online Course Creator

Creating an online course is not only a creative outlet to share your passions but one of the easiest ways to earn passive income. You don’t even have to be tech-savvy to become an online teacher.

Platforms like Udemy, Thinkific and Teachable give you the tools to create your online course. Use the template to provide your prospective students with video, slides, or other graphics to get your point across. They will even help you advertise your course to get the word out.

With the rising cost of traditional college courses, more people are seeking online courses. They are more affordable and provide specialized training for people who seek to change careers or simply make a living working from home.

Make a six-figure income by picking a profitable niche and dedicating the time to creating multiple courses.

16. YouTube Personality

Some people think to make significant money from YouTube you would have had to start making videos 5, 6, or 7 years ago, but that is just not the case. Creating a YouTube account is free and there are endless niches available to start a long-term channel.

The more videos you publish, the more chances you have to increase subscribers, likes, and views. Consider coming up with at least 20 video ideas before you even hit the record button. Top YouTubers have an aggressive content schedule that aligns their niche with collabs from similar YouTubers, trending topics, and click-worthy titles.

Check out the video below which shares the great idea of doing a 90-day challenge where you upload a video (or blog or podcast) every day for 90 days. We did it with the Love Work at Home YouTube channel from 1st Dec 2019 to 28th Feb 2020 and it really helped kick things off!

17. Sell Your Unwanted Stuff

This is one of my favorite go-to side hustles when I need a few extra dollars. Everyone has unwanted stuff in their house that has value. I often sell electronics I no longer use, children’s clothing, and random gifts that need a new home.

You can sell your stuff online on eBay, Mercari, BuyBack World (electronics), Sparkplug (musical instruments), or larger items locally like furniture and toys through apps like OfferUp and Facebook Marketplace.

18. Freelancer

There are many online opportunities for professionals to freelance in their current niche. Graphic designers, writers, web developers, etc. can find both one-time jobs and long-term clients.

Websites like Fiverr, UpWork, ZipRecruiter, and FlexJobs, will help you network with relevant online agencies. You can also choose jobs based on your expertise, schedule availability, and pay range.

Once you gain a few clients, consider setting up a website that showcases your portfolio and reaching out to companies directly with your services. You will appreciate not paying a fee (i.e. UpWork can take up to 20% of your total project bid) and get more word of mouth referrals that can lead to steady work and higher pay.

19. Online Store Owner

For a small investment, you can open an online store. Popular sites like eBay, Etsy, and Amazon Handmade already have an engaged audience.

If you prefer to start with a website, try drag and drop editors such as SquareSpace, Weebly, or Wix. These sites offer tiered plans that support an eCommerce shopping cart, online payment options, email marketing, and more.

20. Cashback Shopping

I like shopping online for convenience, extended product selection, and especially for cashback. If you shop online regularly at popular retailers, you can easily make 2%-10%+ back every time you shop with very little effort.

My favorite cashback sites are Rakuten (formally Ebates), Top Cash Back, and Swagbucks. I have a browser extension for each one so I can quickly check which company is offering the best cashback for my purchase. I frequently acquire money in my PayPal account or can opt to receive the cashback in the form of a gift card.

You won’t get rich with cashback shopping, but if you are not taking advantage of it, you are leaving free money on the table.

Cashback Shopping

21. Mystery Shopper

Mystery shoppers work with market research companies to provide honest feedback on the performance and service of employees and the way they manage their store if it’s an onsite mystery shop. This can be a work from home way to earn money online, if you read on.

Mystery shopping has improved their processes in recent years through easy to use apps and simplified instructions to help you get paid faster. Apps such as Field Agent, GigWalk, Mobee are transparent with their payment and often reimburse you for purchases required to complete the job.

Most jobs require getting certified for a certain retailer, which usually means mastering specific guidelines outlined in writing. You will also need a mobile phone to take pictures of the front of the establishment, restrooms, marketing displays, etc. Most of the time you will be asked to talk with an employee about the dressing room, returns, or picking up an item from an online order.

Seeking out mystery shopping email lists can boost your spending money by giving you bonuses on jobs that are left at the end of the month or that provide an increased fee for driving to multiple jobs in a set radius (i.e. 100 miles).

You can even mystery shop from the comfort of your own home. You should be comfortable calling companies using your home or cell phone to gather the requested information. There are no sales involved. Companies that hire telephone mystery shoppers include Call Center QA and ARC Consulting, LLC.

22. Focus Groups

Focus groups are a fairly new side hustle for me. They have been around for years but I feel like in recent years advertisements have been less about brain scans and medical testing, and more about what kind of restaurant you like to dine at.

I was even able to get my husband on board. He recently participated in a casual dining focus group in which after ninety minutes of giving his honest opinions, received a $125 Visa gift card (on the spot!)

Since then we have been able to apply to focus groups about once a month and have even taken part in at home focus groups for free products.

You can Google “focus groups” in your area or search in the “misc” or “gigs” section of Craigslist. Most of the time you will fill out a short survey about yourself and if you qualify a marketer will give you a follow-up call or email.

Always use caution when giving out your personal information. Never give out sensitive personal or banking information.

23. Product Designer

If you are good at coming up with slogans, puns, or wearable designs, there are several places to create designs for free and sell them to the masses. Sites like Zazzle, TeeSpring, CafePress, RedBubble, Society6, and Threadless allow you to create free virtual store housing t-shirts, mugs, stickers, and more.

Shop owners that are active on social media or create cohesive style collections tend to sell more wares. If you have ideas but aren’t creative, you can hire a graphic designer to create designs for a flat fee.

24. Rent Out Your Stuff

If you are short on cash, consider renting out a spare room in your home with Airbnb. You can also rent out your entire home if you frequently travel for work or have friends that are willing to let you couch surf once in a while to help you pay off debt.

I’ve made thousands from AirBNB over the last 5 years, and have never had a bad experience. We’ve stopped doing it now though as it’s tricky cleaning and packing with 2 kids, and my state has cracked down on ensuring people are paying tax on their Airbnb earnings.

Have a car that spends most of its time in the driveway? Signing up with Turo allows rental of your car to offset the cost of car ownership. Users can rent your car for a couple of days, a week, or a month. Turo even provides damage insurance so you don’t have to worry about the renter having personal insurance. I suggest reading this tutorial before deciding if Turo is right for you.

Live in a tourist area? Use Pavemint to rent out your driveway as parking spaces to nearby convention centers, beaches, or professional sports arenas.

game testing

25. Game Tester

Everyone has a friend or an inner child that would love to play games as their day job. Join Playtest Cloud and they will send you games to test. You will receive compensation via PayPal. This is a great side gig for students.

26. Credit Card Rewards

While having a credit card is a significant financial responsibility, they are excellent for building credit. If you maintain a good credit score by paying your bills on time, you will be eligible for rewards credit cards.

I have used rewards credit cards for years and have earned free flights, free hotel stays, cash, and gift cards. It requires little effort on my part and makes travel affordable when the budget is tight.

Apply for airline credit cards if you frequently fly, hotel based cards if you like to travel, or cash-based cards for technology or experience purchases. Keep in mind some rewards credit cards have an annual fee.

If you don’t make a lot of purchases each month, consider using your credit card to pay your utility bills like water, electricity, and cell phone, and internet. Most of my utilities don’t charge an extra fee for this and you can even set up auto-pay.

For a small fee (similar to a credit card processing fee), you can pay your car loan with Plastiq.

27. Rent Out Your Wardrobe

If your closet is full of designer pieces, make some money sharing them with like-minded stylistas. At Style Lend, you will receive 80% of the lending fee and you can lend your item over and over again. Plus, if you want to wear an item in your lending closet, simply mark the item unavailable when you want to use it yourself.

Get paid via your linked bank account, PayPal, or Venmo as soon as a renter completes their order. Style Lend has a $5 insurance fee on every rental and promises to repair the item (up to $50) or replace the item (over $50) if damage occurs.

28. Caregiver

As care for baby boomers continues to increase, there is a substantial need for in-home caregivers. Care Linx provides licensed caregivers to seniors. You can join the database for a small background check fee and set your own rates.

Care Linx not only makes it easy for the client’s  family members to pay you, but the company also provides liability insurance, tax benefits (including unemployment), access to affordable health care, and exclusive discounts from over 10,000 brands.

29. Remote Medical Workers

Registered Nurses (RNs) can provide telephone triage services while working from home through Carenet. You are responsible for telehealth and virtual care clinical triage assessments, health education, and more to a wide variety of patients. Bilingual (English/Spanish) positions are also available.

30. Online Fitness Coach or Nutritionist

Every January a human stampede joins a local gym to get fit after the holidays. Unfortunately, most of us eventually get bored and go back to our Netflix ways.

A select few can persevere and help those who are struggling to keep healthy habits. You can be an online fitness coach or nutritionist right from your own home.

Not sure where to start? Check out the Online Trainer Academy. They guarantee after applying their course methods, you’ll earn an extra $1,000 per month.

31. Blogger

What other business can you start for less than $10 a month? Plus, you don’t even have to have a degree or work on it full-time. If you have ever wanted to have an audience of thousands, a blog is a great way to build community.

Web content continues to gain traction year after year. You can start with a free website or buy a domain and hosting for an affordable fee. Check out our blog titled ‘How to Start a Successful Blog in 2020’ to help you choose your niche and start writing.

32. Proofreader

If you are contantly spotting errrors when you read and get upset when a comma is in, the wrong place, you might enjoy proofreading. Proofreading can consist of academic writing, blog posts, social media, books, menus, newsletters, and more.

While it generally pays less than freelance writing, the work is plentiful. Plus, the more you proofread, the faster you will become, which can give you a greater return.

Proofreader

33. Photographer

Selling photos isn’t just for DSLR professionals anymore. Using an iPhone can provide a sufficient quality photo for web use. If your phone is always full of photos, consider selling them to Shutterstock or iStock photo.

If you like taking portraits, ask your friends and family if they would like their photos taken for a nominal fee. Your hobby might just turn into a business.

34. Robo-Investor

Robo-advisor platforms offer personalized financial advice through advanced algorithms or mathematical rules. The apps allow you to automatically designate investments based on certain goals such as a vacation, college, or retirement.

Robo-investing is great for beginner investors since there is rarely an account minimum or maintenance fees. Plus, investment platforms like Robinhood and Webull will give you free stock for signing up and referring friends.

35. Sell Unused Gift Cards

Over $45 billion in unused gift cards is quite the stash. Sell your unwanted gift cards for instant cash or Amazon credit. My favorite place to sell is Card Pool or set your own price by listing on Raise.

36. Affiliate Marketer

You don’t need a following or a website to be a successful affiliate marketer. Check out Clickbank, Commission Junction, and Share-a-Sale to get started.

earn money online drone flying

37. Drone Operator

Companies are hiring drone operators for tasks like aerial inspections, land mapping, and real estate photography. If you already own a drone and love to fly it, why not put it to work?

You will need to register your drone with the FAA and obtain a commercial use license. Learn how to make money with a drone.

38. Open a Promotional Savings or Checking Account

Larger network banks and digital-only banks often offer a bonus amount (usually in the hundreds) for opening a new savings or checking account. Do a Google search to see which bank is currently offering the best promotion in your area.

39. eBook Writer

Ebooks are growing in popularity on platforms like Amazon, Smashwords, and Google Play. Each platform offers millions of potential readers and high earning percentages.

You can write an ebook ranging from a couple of pages to a few hundred. Marketing your ebook can be the hardest task, but you retain all rights and there is little investment.

You can also ghostwrite ebooks for agencies that specialize in different niches. Keep in mind if you are a ghostwriter, you will receive a flat fee, your name will not be mentioned, and you won’t have a say on how the ebook is completed and published.

40. Sell Your Textbooks

Use a used book price aggregator like BookScouter to get the best price from your textbooks. Most text booksellers offer a prepaid shipping label to send your books in. Once the condition is verified, you will receive money via check, PayPal, or Amazon gift card.

Check out this YouTube video where we share some more information about BookScouter:

Next time you are at the thrift store, take a few minutes to scan textbooks. You might find a gem under a $1 that is worth a lot more. Here’s a hint, look for valuable textbooks!

41. Peer to Peer Lender

Peer-to-peer (P2P) lending allows individual investors to provide crowdfunded loans directly to other people or businesses who seek funding. This form of online lending cuts out the financial institution middlemen, which in turn can produce lower loan rates for the lendee and a greater return on investment (compared to traditional savings accounts) for the lender.

It’s worth noting there is a risk that the borrower will not pay the loan back, but each borrower gets a risk rating so you can make an informed decision. To decrease risk, we recommend only choosing users that are currently employed, require a shorter loan term (3 years or less), and make at least $50,000 per year.

For as little as $25, you can become a lender for a P2P service like Prosper.

42. Cancel Unnecessary Subscriptions and Renegotiate Bills

We all have subscription services that social media made us buy. After that free trial is over, we are left with the adulting task of canceling or facing the dreaded full-price monthly charge.

It’s important to take care of unnecessary subscriptions such as gym memberships, food delivery, and streaming services as soon as possible. Especially if you are paying down debt, you should get rid of all recurring purchases that drain cash flow.

Another way to save money is to renegotiate your cell phone, internet, and insurance bills. This is typically done once a year, ideally a month before your contract is up. Always be polite with customer service agents and ask them to seek out all regional discounts, ask if there are downgraded plans available, or if there are any loyal customer or employer-related discounts that could be applied.

Use Trim if you don’t have time to deal with the renegotiations yourself.

43. Save Money Automatically

Let’s face it, saving money can be downright boring. Fortunately, you can save money automatically without even thinking about it.

Digit and Acorns use an algorithm to learn your expenses and move a portion of your discretionary income into a savings or investment account. This is great for unexpected expenses like losing a job or medical bills.

44. Mover

In America alone, 40 million people move every year. That’s a lot of boxes.

If you have the muscle and a truck, you can make some serious cash helping people move. Sites like Citizen Shipper and GoShare vary in hourly pricing, but most jobs are upwards of $30/hour.

What’s Your Superpower?

You may have dreams of quitting your 9 to 5, adding a long-term side hustle to your schedule, or getting rid of debt that is weighing you down. Whatever the dream, it is possible to make money online.

Use your current skills or invest in a new one. You don’t have to quit your job and dive in full-time. Start with freelancing in the evenings or on weekends and build your business. Once it takes off, you will have a firm foundation to be your own boss.

Have you tried one of the make money online ideas that I listed above? We would love to hear about your experiences in the comments below. And don’t forget to share this article with someone who would also find it useful.
