If you want to get up to speed (and then some) with the fundamentals of digital marketing, this LinkedIn Learning course is a great place to do it. With 25 courses spanning 40 hours, it might even get you ready to skip the entry-level digital marketing positions and go straight to being a manager!
This Udemy course is a little different. It won’t just teach you how to become a digital marketer — it will show you how to start your own digital marketing agency! Entrepreneurs in the making, this one’s for you.
Struggle to keep yourself motivated and focused when studying from home? This course takes a fresh approach, letting you learn from an instructor in live classes. The perfect way to kickstart your digital marketing journey if you need a helping hand.
The world of digital marketing can sometimes feel mysterious and confusing — what exactly do those marketers do? And do you have what it takes to be one of them? If you’ve ever pondered either of these questions, check out Digital Marketing Job Description and Types of Digital Marketing.
No matter what type of digital marketing job you pursue, there are some fundamental skills that you need in order to succeed.
Digital marketing is far more data-driven than traditional marketing, and this trend will only accelerate further in the future. So learning how to analyse and interpret data is a must whether you are working as a freelancer or in a remote job.
If you find graphs and spreadsheets intimidating or you blanked out when you learnt this at school, don’t worry — it’s a skill that can be learnt! (Check out the course providers later on in this article – Udacity focuses specifically on this)
In case you hadn’t noticed, video marketing is on the rise. Hello, TikTok/Instagram Reels/YouTube!
You’ll be invaluable to clients and companies if you can produce and edit your own videos — and what could be a more apt way to learn than watching a video about it?
Although video marketing is growing, it hasn’t replaced standard marketing forms like ad copy, email marketing, and written content creation quite yet. In fact, it probably never will. If you know how to engage readers with your writing, that’s half the battle for many digital marketing projects.
Organizing projects might not be the sexiest skill out there, but it’s vital unless you want your campaigns to go pear-shaped, miss the deadlines on your content calendar, and let down your team. Mastering tools like Trello and Asana is a great first step.
Following instructions step-by-step and sticking to the rules is important sometimes — but mixing things up and creating your own rules is also a great asset. How many brands get big just from following the rules?
Search engine optimization is key to getting a brand’s name and message out there. Bonus points if you can also learn the growing field of voice search SEO. To educate yourself on the basics, check out the free courses on the Ahrefs Academy.
Did you convince your parents to get a puppy when you were a kid and always magically manage to get your way in friendships and relationships? Some might call you manipulative, but the digital marketing world will celebrate your persuasion skills! They’re much-needed to break into new markets and get the public to tick the box and say, “Yes!”
A common principle of design and development, design thinking is about approaching tasks from the user’s perspective and building a picture of your customers. Instead of creating a marketing campaign you think is a good idea, get into the mind of the person you’re trying to target.
Still don’t understand what we’re on about? Check out this introduction to design thinking.
It should go without saying that you don’t need to be a natural at all eight of the skills above, they can be learned. But if you can tick off at least half of them — or you at least have a genuine interest in learning to develop them — then that’s a good place to start.
If you’re looking for a remote digital marketing job, head over to 12 Sites for the Best Remote Digital Marketing Jobs.
Now, let’s dive into the courses!!!
If you’re still reading this, it’s a good sign — you probably have at least a few of the eight most in-demand skills for digital marketers. Well done you!
Now, it’s time to take those digital marketing skills to the next level by taking a course. Whether you want to work on your weaknesses or double-down on your strengths, you’ll find something that suits you.
This Master Digital Marketing program consists of 25 mini-courses that span everything from social media advertising to SEO to marketing tools. Talk about comprehensive!
However, with 40 hours of content, it’s not for the faint of heart. It also doesn’t go into the basics of marketing, so beginners might prefer to start elsewhere and keep this on the backburner for once you’ve got the foundations.
If you love working from home so much that you want to make sure you can be a remote worker forever or help others to do the same, why not start your own digital marketing agency? It might sound difficult, or even downright impossible, but this course will teach you everything you need to know to succeed.
It covers just about every place and social media platform you could possibly want to market on — and then some. Overall, there are 93 hours of video, plus articles and other resources.
Of course, if all you want is a digital marketing job and not to build a business, this isn’t the right course for you.
Edureka might be a lesser-known platform than the likes of Udemy and LinkedIn, but don’t rule it out on that basis. Unlike other course sites, this program involves classes led by an instructor, which is a huge draw card.
This is a great introduction to digital marketing, including how to use key tools like Google Analytics.
However, you must commit to classes at certain times, so it lacks the flexibility of other options. But this can be an advantage if you’re one of those people who starts courses but never finishes them.
For an overview of various digital marketing domains, it doesn’t get much better than the Digital Marketing Specialist program on Simplilearn. The program will take you through the eight top areas within the field, including SEO and email marketing, and you’ll come out with a Master’s Certificate.
You’ll even receive a $395 voucher for a certification from the Online Marketing Certified Professional (OMCP) on completion!
Unfortunately, it could be too advanced for people learning about digital marketing for the first time. It’s also one of the more expensive courses — but it’s worth it for the high-level education.
If you’ve been paying attention, you’ll remember that data analysis is one of the top skills for digital marketers. For anyone who wants to double-down on this skillset, the Udacity marketing analytics nanodegree is a great place to start.
Since it’s a nanodegree, you’ll get help preparing for the working world, plus feedback, mentoring and career coaching.
Naturally, if you want to explore other aspects of digital marketing, you’re better to look elsewhere.
An added bonus is that it gives you practical skills to start your own affiliate website, which could easily go on to net you more than the course costs. Invest in yourself!
The price is higher than other courses in the field. However, you can receive a sizable discount if you complete the webinar first, which is also a great way to figure out if it’s the right choice for you.
What could be better than one course in digital marketing? A bundle of various digital marketing courses! That’s what Reliable Soft provides, with this bundle including courses that span SEO, email marketing, keyword research, and more.
It might seem expensive at first, but considering what you get, the value for money is great — and there’s almost always some kind of discount. Some people might also prefer to get a course from a course provider rather than a digital marketing agency (although this does have the advantage of providing more practical advice).
Online courses are great — they help you dip your toes into the water of a new field, and they’re generally pretty affordable.
But once you’re ready to commit to the field of digital marketing, it might be time to get a certification. This is a great way to stand out from the crowd and benefit from having a reliable brand on your resume.
The most “official” certification you can get depends on where you’re from, so we’ve listed some solid options below for people located both in the US and elsewhere.
If you’re from the US, you’d struggle to find a more impressive organization to get your digital marketing certification from than the American Marketing Association (AMA) itself, a professional association founded in 1937.
This course also has the backing of the Digital Marketing Institute, an AMA partner and another respected institution.
This is a fantastic course that will turn you into a marketing pro, but it’s probably not an ideal choice for complete beginners. You’ll also need to go to a physical testing centre to take the exam.
The Digital Marketing Institute (DMI) might sound familiar — it’s the organization that partnered with the AMA for the certification above. Although the DMI has slightly less credibility within the US than the AMA, it has more recognition across the globe, and claims this is the most recognized digital marketing course in the world.
The professional diploma is also a better option for beginners, offering an introduction to digital marketing alongside more advanced modules.
However, some US employers might not recognize the DMI to the same extent as the AMA course, and it’s more expensive than courses from providers like Udemy that don’t specialize in digital marketing.
Not to be confused with the Digital Marketing Institute, the Institute of Data and Marketing (IDM) is a London-based institution with 30 years of history, specializing in digital and data-driven marketing. It’s a leading European provider for the profession and even approved by the UK government.
This program consists of ten modules and usually takes a year — it’s certainly not a short term undertaking! But the breadth of what you learn makes it worth it, including practical application and an in-depth understanding of campaigns.
Once you complete it, you’ll receive the IDM Award in Digital Marketing. Unlike some other certifications, you can complete the whole thing online — no in-person exams needed!
What’s the difference between a certificate and a certification, I hear you ask? Whereas our certification courses focused on accreditation from professional institutes in the marketing sphere and the online courses are more informal (most are from digital marketing experts), digital marketing courses with certificates fall somewhere between and are usually from educational institutions.
The options below are all from educational institutions and come with certificates.
This course is popular among experienced marketing professionals and gives them an up-to-date overview of relevant concepts like SEO, SEM, and social media.
Unfortunately, costs reflect what you’d expected from a respected university, and the starting date is rigid.
This is a premium course focusing on strategy and data and it requires at least six hours of commitment per week.
It only takes six weeks to complete — shorter than other comparable courses — there’s flexibility over when you complete the modules. However, signing up for the course isn’t the easiest as you need to order a course brochure before you can apply.
You can take this course flexibly and in your own time while learning about various aspects of marketing. However, it’s slightly more theoretical than other courses, with a focus on marketing as a field rather than teaching you how to use tools and techniques.
Like the MIT program, you need to sign up for a prospectus before you even have the option of applying for the program.
This program just about covers everything you could want to learn about digital marketing, from affiliate marketing to a broader look at strategies and digital trends. As an extra incentive, there’s a 50% scholarship available.
However, unless you’re available to attend in Spain and study in Spanish, taking part isn’t an option!
As you can see, there’s not just one correct way to approach digital marketing — this is a field that encompasses many aspects, from analytics to content creation. Wherever you see yourself and your skillset fitting in, there’s a course to help you progress further along that route!
